Pakistan, Malaysia vow to deepen defence and strategic ties

RAWALPINDI: Malaysian Home Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution Bin Ismail, accompanied by Malaysia’s ambassador to Pakistan and a high-level delegation met Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters on Friday.

The meeting focused on regional security dynamics and matters of mutual interest, according to a statement issued after the meeting.

Both sides reaffirmed the strong and enduring ties between Pakistan and Malaysia and expressed their commitment to expanding cooperation and engagement in areas of shared interest.

Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening defence cooperation and strategic engagement with Malaysia.

Separately, a high-level defence delegation of the Democratic Republic of Congo, headed by Lieutenant General Banza Mwilambwe Jules, Chief of Defence of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo, called on Field Marshal Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ), Rawalpindi.

Upon arrival at GHQ, the visiting dignitary was presented a Guard of Honour by a smartly turned-out tri-services contingent.

During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, regional security environment and avenues for enhanced bilateral defence and security cooperation were discussed.

Both dignitaries expressed satisfaction over the longstanding cordial relations between Pakistan and Democratic Republic of Congo.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed which aims at broadening and strengthening defence and security cooperation between the two countries.

Earlier, Lieutenant General Banza Mwilambwe Jules, also called on Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu.

The visiting dignitary lauded the professionalism, operational capabilities and unwavering commitment of the Armed Forces of Pakistan towards maintaining peace and stability in the region and acknowledged the significant progress achieved through indigenization and self-reliance.
