Karachi to install smart no parking cameras

The Sindh Safe Cities Authority has announced plans to install smart no-parking cameras across Karachi to automatically detect illegally parked vehicles and issue electronic traffic challans.

According to the authority, the cameras will be installed in no-parking zones throughout the city. They will identify vehicles violating parking regulations and transmit the information directly to the Traffic Regulation and Citation System (TRACS) used by the Karachi Traffic Police.

Director General Sarfaraz Nawaz said vehicle owners who violate no-parking regulations will receive electronic challans through the TRACS system without any direct interaction with traffic police officers.

He said the initiative is part of the Karachi Safe City Project, under which the Sindh Safe Cities Authority has already established a citywide surveillance network of more than 1,300 AI-powered cameras installed at various locations.

The authority said the new smart no-parking cameras will further expand the surveillance network and enable the Karachi Traffic Police to issue real-time, contactless e-challans to vehicles parked in prohibited areas.
