Chris Rock is returning to the director’s chair with his new film, Misty Green.
The 61-year-old comedian wrote, directed and stars in the upcoming A24 drama, his first film as a director since Top Five in 2014.
The movie stars Rosalind Eleazar as Misty Green, a Hollywood actress trying to rebuild her career years after her breakthrough.
A newly released trailer shows Misty struggling with personal and professional challenges.
In one scene, Rock’s character reminds Misty about an incident during a past casting.
“The last time I cast you, you punched this woman in the face,” he says, to which Misty replies, “She hit me first.”
The trailer also hints at a romance between the two. When Misty asks whether he believes in her acting or is just trying to flirt with her, he responds, “Why can’t both be true?”
The film also stars Adam Driver as one of Misty’s love interests and Daniel Kaluuya as her troubled brother.
The cast also includes Anna Kendrick, Topher Grace, Anthony Anderson, Kelli Garner, Amy Landecker, Rich Sommer and Tracie Thoms.
Misty Green will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September before opening in cinemas in October.
