WASHINGTON: US Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance have welcomed their fourth child, a baby boy named Alec Neel Vance, the couple announced on Sunday.
Sharing the news in a post on X, Vance said both mother and baby were doing well and that the family was delighted by the new addition.
“We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning. Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother,” Vance wrote.
The vice president also thanked the medical teams at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit for their care and support.
“The incredible military doctors and staff members of Walter Reed Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit have been a blessing. We are deeply thankful for all they have done for our family,” he added.

According to reports, the birth is considered historic, as Usha Vance has become the first US second lady in more than 150 years to give birth while serving in office.
While President Donald Trump attended the 2026 FIFA World Cup final in New Jersey, Vance remained in northern Virginia with his family following the birth. However, he has indicated that he does not plan to take formal leave from his official duties.
Born on January 6, 1986, Usha Vance met JD Vance while both were studying at Yale Law School. She left her legal career after her husband assumed office as vice president and has since taken on the role of second lady.
In a recent interview with ABC News, Usha said she and her husband strive to protect their children’s privacy despite living in the public eye.
“Everything that we do is in the public eye,” she said. “We try not to put them in circumstances where they’ll be exposed. When we are in public with them, we just let them be kids.”
Married since 2014, JD and Usha Vance are now parents to four children: sons Ewan, Vivek, and Alec Neel, and daughter Mirabel. The birth of Alec marks the couple’s fourth child and third son.
