US envoys still plan Moscow visit, await Ukraine’s position on ‘unified proposal’: Report

The Trump administration’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have not fully abandoned plans of travelling to Moscow and initiating negotiations with Russian officials, but it could only be possible after they gain a clear understanding of Ukraine’s position.

As reported by TASS citing a source, the option of peace talks with Moscow is still on the table and Washington is ready to pursue only after Kyiv clears its stance over these negotiations.

“The intention is still there but there are difficulties understanding Kiev’s position. They will come but only after there is clarity on the position,” the source said.

Asked whether the visit might still take place within the next two weeks, the source said, “All options are on the table.”

The report comes after Axios reported that Witkoff and Kushner postponed Moscow visit. The trip was intended to present an updated joint proposal to Russian president Vladimir Putin aimed at breaking diplomatic deadlock.

The postponement stems from the lack of clarity of Kyiv and European allies to support this joint peace framework.

On the morning of October 10, reports indicated that negotiations ended early and the scheduled second day of discussions was cancelled.

According to Axios sources, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner warned Ukrainian officials that Washington could cut off Ukraine’s access to US intelligence if Kiev refuses to make concessions.

The report also follows Trump’s announcement of an energy ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia without disclosing much details regarding the recent truce.
