Tyla addressed her widely discussed interaction with Rihanna at the 2026 Met Gala after videos from the event sparked debate across social media platforms.
Rihanna attended the Met Gala with A$AP Rocky for what the couple described as a rare evening out together. Following the event, clips shared online led fans to speculate about an apparent awkward moment involving Tyla and the singer.
One video reportedly showed Rihanna and Rocky sitting inside a Sprinter van after the gala, while another clip appeared to capture Rihanna reacting as Rocky spoke with Swarovski creative director Giovanna Engelbert, EJAE and Tyla.
On May 6, Tyla responded to the discussion in a TikTok video, explaining that her brief interaction with Rihanna left her uncertain about how the meeting had gone.
“Everyone knows I love Rih, oh my gosh. So, I met her last night, and she was cool,” Tyla said.
She continued, “You know, I met her, but I think she was occupied, ’cause…I went up to her… I was like, ‘Oh, hey,’ and she was like…. ‘My baby daddy’s calling me.’ And then she left…. and I was like… ‘Oh, maybe she was busy… So I don’t know…. I felt awkward… I don’t know how to say hi if I feel like someone’s busy.”
The clips quickly spread online, with some users suggesting Rihanna had ignored the “Water” singer, while others defended the interaction as being misunderstood.
According to TMZ, sources denied rumours that Rihanna and Rocky had argued after the event. A source told the outlet, “It was a long day and they were running on empty.”
The interaction has since become one of the most discussed celebrity moments from the 2026 Met Gala on social media.
