Two dead after speeding car crashes into Atlantis gym in Laval, Quebec

Two teenagers have died and another has been critically injured after a car crashed into a building in Laval, Quebec, early on Wednesday, police said.

According to Laval police, officers spotted the vehicle at about 1:20 AM on Ouimet Street in the Pont-Viau district and attempted to stop it.

“It quickly sped off. No chase was initiated,” police spokesperson Laurent Arsenault said.

A short time later, the vehicle crashed into the Atlantis gym on Laurentides Boulevard.

Police said the male driver and a 19-year-old female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. A 19-year-old male passenger was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Investigators said the vehicle was not displaying a licence plate and that speed is believed to have been a factor in the collision.

A security perimeter has been set up while investigators examine the crash site.

Laurentides Boulevard remains closed between Saint-Martin Boulevard and Richard Street as the investigation continues.

Police have not released the identities of the victims, and no further details about the circumstances leading up to the crash have been made public.
