US President Donald Trump said the United States has “massive amounts” of munitions after reports that the Pentagon’s stockpile of key missile defence interceptors has been significantly depleted.
In a post on Truth Social early on Thursday, Trump dismissed concerns over US weapons supplies but did not specify which munitions he was referring to.
“The U.S. has massive amounts of ‘munitions,’ especially of certain types. Additionally, large amounts are being manufactured and shipped to the U.S. as needed,” Trump wrote.
“Defense companies are building the largest number of plants and factories in our country’s history,” he added.
His comments came after CNN reported on Tuesday that the US military had used nearly 80 percent of its interceptors for the THAAD missile defence system.
According to CNN, senior US military commanders have warned that the Pentagon’s munitions stockpile is “dangerously low.”
The report cited multiple sources familiar with the situation and said concerns have grown over the availability of key missile defence weapons.
Trump did not directly address the CNN report or provide further details about current stockpile levels.
His administration has repeatedly said it is increasing domestic defence production as the United States continues to support allies and maintain military readiness.
