US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he and Chinese President Xi Jinping reached “fantastic trade deals” during their summit in Beijing.
The leaders met at the Zhongnanhai government compound before Trump departed China for Washington.
The meeting included a private discussion, tea and a walk through the historic gardens.
Calling the trip an “incredible visit”, Trump told reporters that “a lot of good has come of it.”
While the US president did not provide full details of the agreements, he said earlier this week that China had agreed to buy American aircraft and agricultural products, including soybeans.
“The relationship is a very strong one, and we’ve really done some wonderful things,” Trump said.
According tp reports, the two leaders also discussed Iran, Taiwan and the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route.
Trump said both sides wanted the waterway reopened and claimed Xi had indicated China would not provide military equipment to Iran.
The summit comes as Washington and Beijing attempt to stabilise relations following last year’s trade dispute, which saw tariffs between the two countries rise above 100 percent.
