Timothée Chalamet and Hans Zimmer release ‘Desert Chant’ from ‘Dune: Part Three’
Chalamet, who reprises his role as Paul Atreides, has already contributed his voice to the film’s music
Timothée Chalamet and composer Hans Zimmer have released Desert Chant, the first single from the soundtrack of Dune: Part Three, ahead of the highly anticipated film’s theatrical debut in December.
Released by WaterTower Music on October 20, the track features Chalamet’s vocals alongside Zimmer’s score for director Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming science-fiction epic. The song begins with Chalamet humming before building into an intense, cinematic war chant that reflects the scale and atmosphere of the world of Arrakis.
Chalamet, who reprises his role as Paul Atreides in the third instalment, has already contributed his voice to the film’s music. Zimmer previously confirmed that the Fremen chant featured in the film’s first trailer was performed by the actor, who developed the vocal element in collaboration with the composer and Villeneuve.
Zimmer has described his work on the Dune films as a deeply personal creative experience, connecting his longstanding admiration for Frank Herbert’s science-fiction novel with his collaboration with Villeneuve. The composer returns for the third film after creating the scores for Dune (2021) and Dune: Part Two (2024).
The upcoming film will conclude Villeneuve’s planned trilogy, adapting the next chapter of Herbert’s saga following the events of Dune: Part Two. Set nearly two decades after Paul takes control of the Imperium, the story follows him as emperor while he confronts the consequences of his rule, political conspiracies and threats to his power. Chani, played by Zendaya, remains central to the unfolding conflict.
Alongside Chalamet and Zendaya, the cast includes Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Anya Taylor-Joy, Javier Bardem, Charlotte Rampling, Isaach de Bankolé and Robert Pattinson, who joins the franchise as Scytale.
Villeneuve directs from a screenplay co-written with Brian K. Vaughan, based on Herbert’s Dune Messiah. The film is produced by Legendary Pictures in association with Warner Bros. Pictures, with Zimmer returning to provide the music.
Dune: Part Three is scheduled to arrive in cinemas and IMAX in December 2026, with international releases beginning on December 16 and a North American release set for December 18.
With Desert Chant, Chalamet’s vocal performance becomes a prominent part of the film’s musical identity, offering fans an early taste of the sound accompanying the next chapter of Paul Atreides’ story.
