‘The Parent Trap’ sequel reportedly in development with Lindsay Lohan set to return

Reports claim that Lisa Ann Walter revealed Disney is working on a follow-up after more than 25 years
A sequel to Disney’s 1998 family comedy The Parent Trap is reportedly in development, with Lindsay Lohan expected to return as twins Hallie Parker and Annie James more than 25 years after the original film’s release.
According to comments made by Lisa Ann Walter during an appearance on The Howard Stern Wrap Up Show, Disney is working on a follow-up to the popular film.
Walter, who played Chessy in the original movie, said she had learned that Lohan is expected to reprise her dual role and revealed she has also been approached about returning.
Despite the reports, Disney has not officially announced the project or confirmed that a sequel has been approved for production.
Directed by Nancy Meyers, The Parent Trap was released in 1998 and marked Lohan’s breakthrough film role. She portrayed identical twins Annie James and Hallie Parker, who meet unexpectedly at summer camp before secretly switching places in an attempt to reunite their divorced parents.
The film also starred Dennis Quaid, the late Natasha Richardson, Elaine Hendrix, Simon Kunz and Lisa Ann Walter. Over the years, it has remained one of Disney’s most popular live-action family films and continues to attract new audiences.
Speculation about a sequel has circulated for several years, particularly following Lohan’s return to acting and cast reunions at Disney events. Walter has previously spoken publicly about her interest in revisiting the franchise and suggested last year that discussions involving Lohan and Disney had taken place.
If the reported project proceeds, it would join Disney’s growing list of legacy sequels that reunite original casts decades after their debut. Interest in Lohan’s Disney films has also increased following her recent return to the studio in Freakier Friday.
For now, the reported sequel remains unconfirmed, with fans awaiting an official announcement from Disney.
