Samantha Morton is already an established star, with The Walking Dead and Minority Report to her credit; however, in The Odyssey, her performance was particularly hailed.
But the actress is dealing with trauma, according to her own words.
Morton explains that in the last two years, she has experienced double the pain. Initially, her father passed away.
And 18 months later, her sister, too, died.
“My relationship with my past changes as I age and my children age, but things keep happening,’ she said. ‘I sadly lost my sister on April 22 this year, she was 53,” she reveals to The Sunday Times.
The actress continues, “I am still dealing with the yearners and the trauma. I lost my real father 18 months ago. Trauma.”
“So the past is always with me, and I’m not saying I’m not going to be all right next week, but every day I wake, say a prayer and say, ‘Please help me.'”
In a dejected way, she shares, “Someone told me I was resilient when I was younger, but sometimes you’ve got no choice other than to be resilient because if you’re not, you’re dead.”
Morton’s remarks come as she has battled trauma since childhood.
She has nine siblings, but her parents separated, and her biological father had alcoholism issues, so he did time behind bars.
What’s worse, her stepfather again had similar vices, which had Morton’s mom suffer a breakdown.
But now the actress’ stunning performance in The Odyssey has led her to much praise and tipped her to win an Oscar.
