Its mix of humor, parenting struggles, and changing family roles
The Breadwinner is an upcoming American comedy film directed by Eric Appel and written by Nate Bargatze and Dan Lagana.
The movie marks Bargatze’s first feature film role. It also features a well-known cast, including Mandy Moore, Colin Jost, Kumail Nanjiani, Will Forte, Zach Cherry, and Martin Herlihy. The film is set to release in US theaters on May 29, 2026.
The story follows Nate Wilcox, a family man whose life changes after his wife secures a successful deal on Shark Tank.
As her career begins to grow, Nate takes on the role of a stay-at-home dad. He struggles to adjust to parenting duties and managing life at home.
The film mixes humor with relatable family situations and modern parenting challenges.
Nate Bargatze plays Nate Wilcox, while Mandy Moore stars as his wife, Katie Wilcox. Other cast members include Will Forte, Colin Jost, Kumail Nanjiani, Zach Cherry, Kate Berlant, and Martin Herlihy. Their performances are expected to add strong comedic energy to the film.
TriStar Pictures acquired the project in November 2024 before the screenplay was completed. Wonder Project later joined the movie as a production partner.
The film’s score was created by Leo Birenberg and Zach Robinson, who previously worked with Appel on “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.”
With Nate Bargatze making his big screen debut and a talented comedy cast supporting him, The Breadwinner aims to deliver a fun and relatable family comedy.
Its mix of humor, parenting struggles, and changing family roles could make it one of the standout comedy films of 2026.
