Ten people died in Karachi due to intense heatwave

At least ten bodies were recovered from different parts of the city on Monday as Karachi endured intense heat, recording its hottest day since 2018, confirmed Chhipa Foundation spokesperson Shahid Chaudhry.

Officials said that four bodies were found on the streets, while four others died after being taken to hospitals. The deceased were reported from areas including Manghopir, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Boat Basin, and Suparco Road.

Four more people were shifted to hospitals from Liaquatabad, Jamali Bridge, Surjani Town, and Defence Phase 8 after their condition worsened, but they could not survive. Rescue officials said some of the victims were drug addicts, while others appeared to have died due to extreme heat.

These incidents happened as temperatures rose sharply, with very hot and dry weather continuing in the city. The Pakistan Meteorological Department said Karachi recorded its hottest day of the year, with temperatures reaching 44.1°C.

The Met Office added that hot and humid weather is expected to continue, with temperatures likely to reach around 39°C. Although sea breezes may continue, high humidity will make the heat feel even more intense.

Medical experts have advised people to limit outdoor activities, especially during peak hours, avoid direct sunlight between 11am and 3pm, drink plenty of water, and take basic precautions to stay safe from heat.

They also suggested avoiding street food, drinking only boiled water, and staying away from unhygienic food and drinks to prevent stomach problems. People are advised to wear light, loose clothing and cover their heads when going outside.
