Teen randomly stabbed in daylight Hamilton attack, suspect arrested

A man has been arrested after a teenager was randomly stabbed in Hamilton on Wednesday, police say.

According to police reports, the attack happened at around 5:30 PM near Main Street West and Frid Street.

Hamilton police said the 16-year-old called 911 to report that he had been randomly attacked by an unknown man, 36, and believed he had suffered a stab wound.

The victim was taken to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

“Several roads in the area were closed to assist with the search for the suspect and the investigation,” Hamilton police said in a news release.

Officers later found a suspect nearby and took him into custody.

“The suspect was located nearby and arrested without incident. Members of the Hamilton Police K9 Unit searched the area and successfully located the weapon believed to have been used in the attack,” police said.

Investigators have not released further details about what may have led to the stabbing.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant video footage to contact the on-duty Division 10 Staff Sergeant at 905-546-4725.
