Firehouse 51 faces disaster as Severide weighs his future and a roof collapse traps firefighters
The season 14 finale of Chicago Fire ended on a tense cliffhanger as Firehouse 51 responded to a dangerous blaze that left several firefighters trapped inside a collapsing building.
The emergency call teased at the beginning of the instalment only fully unfolded in the closing moments, with the story instead focusing on key personal developments in the hours leading up to the incident.
Severide found himself torn between two major career opportunities after the Office of Fire Investigation offered him a leadership role while the Chicago Fire Department officially approved his promotion to captain at Firehouse 51.
The decision became more complicated following the unexpected return of Isaiah, who revealed he could no longer stay with his mother and would temporarily live with Kidd and Severide.
The situation prompted Kidd to suggest that Severide accepting the safer OFI position could benefit their future if Isaiah became a permanent part of their family. Before Severide could make a final decision, the team was dispatched to the major fire.
Elsewhere, Herrmann and Cindy celebrated their relationship with an emotional vow renewal ceremony at Molly’s after 32 years of marriage and personal hardship. The gathering also brought moments of joy for the wider Firehouse 51 family ahead of the unfolding disaster.
Mouch received interest from a publisher for his book, Brothers in Arms, but was told Herrmann would need to be removed from the story. Although disappointed, Herrmann encouraged his friend to pursue a separate romance novel deal instead.
Meanwhile, Cruz and Chloe were relieved after doctors revealed pregnancy complications were caused by Chloe carrying twins.
The episode closed with firefighters scrambling to escape as the building showed signs of collapse, ending with Herrmann calling a desperate “Mayday” as several team members remained trapped inside.
Chicago Fire has been officially renewed for a 15th season, which is scheduled to air in the 2026-2027 season.
