
Russia launched one of the largest-ever ballistic missile attacks of its four-year-old war against Ukraine overnight into Sunday, utilizing attack UAVs alongside various types of air and ground-launched missiles, according to authorities.
Ukraine’s air force said Moscow had launched: “A massive, combined strike against Ukraine using attack UAVs and various types of air and ground-launched missiles,” and noted that the prime target was the capital Kyiv.
CNN journalists reported hearing impact sounds throughout the night as there was a strong smell of smoke in the city, prompting officials to issue a formal advisory to the public.
Acting minister of foreign affairs, Andriy Syiba said Russia had launched around four dozen missiles, describing it as the largest deployment of ballistic missiles since the start of the war.
The air force said air defenses neutralized 126 targets, including 18 missiles and 108 unmanned aircraft. Images showcased from Kyiv showed a massive pit hollowed out of the ground, and the scorched facades of buildings, while the State emergency reported strikes in five districts of the capital.
Additionally, Zelensky said: “Protection against ballistic missiles is our constant and top priority.”
“Interceptors are needed every day and I am grateful to everyone who takes our agreements seriously and ensures the delivery of anti-ballistic capabilities, further continued.”
