Angry Anderson, the lead singer of rock band Rose Tattoo has passed away after a brief health battle. He was 79.
The legendary rocker’s “devastating loss” was announced on Wednesday by his family and bandmates in a statement days after he was hospitalized following a cardiac arrest earlier in August.
The statement began, “It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Gary “Angry” Anderson on the eve of Monday, 21 September 2026 surrounded by his loved ones here in Australia.
“Angry was a devoted father, and much-loved member of his friends, bandmates and the wider music and entertainment community,” they continued.
Pouring their hearts out, they continued to mourn, “His loss will be deeply felt by all those who knew and loved him both here in Australia and overseas.
The late rocker’s “family and band members” have asked for “privacy at this difficult time” and they “will not be giving interviews” anytime soon.
They concluded, “We kindly ask that their wishes are respected as they come to terms with this devastating loss and take the time they need to grieve.
“We thank everyone for their prayers and messages of love and continued support. With love, The Anderson family and Rose Tattoo Band. Stay young, grow strong.”
Angry, whose real name was Gary Stephen Anderson, was the longest-surviving remaining member of the hard rock band Rose Tattoo.
His 1987 song Suddenly became a global hit at the time after it reached number 3 on the UK Singles Chart.
Angry became an advocate of men’s health after five of his Rose Tattoo bandmates died tragically due to cancer.
