Robert Pattinson confirms ‘The Batman Part II’ production pause after Matt Reeves steps away

His comments follow a statement from DC Studios confirming that filming on the sequel had been temporarily halted

Robert Pattinson has confirmed that production on The Batman Part II will pause temporarily following director Matt Reeves’ decision to step away from the project to focus on a family matter.

The actor shared the update while promoting his latest film, Primetime, explaining that the team would take a short break before determining its next steps. “Yeah, we’re pausing for a little bit, and then we’re going to figure it all out,” Pattinson said during an interview with Official Pop Drop.

His comments follow a statement from DC Studios confirming that filming on the highly anticipated sequel had been temporarily halted. The studio said Reeves was taking time to address a family matter and emphasised that he had its full support.

“Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter,” the statement read. “Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”

Reeves directed the 2022 film The Batman, which introduced Pattinson as a younger Bruce Wayne operating in a crime-ridden Gotham City. The film received positive reviews for its darker approach to the superhero and earned more than $770 million worldwide, establishing a separate cinematic interpretation of the DC character.

The sequel has already experienced several delays. Originally scheduled to arrive in October 2025, the film was subsequently pushed back to October 2026 before another postponement moved its release to October 2027. Warner Bros. later rescheduled the film for 18 February 2028.

Filming began in London in June 2026, with Pattinson returning as the Caped Crusader. The cast also includes Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as the Penguin and Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon. New additions include Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan, although details about their characters have largely been kept under wraps.

The sequel is expected to continue Reeves’ grounded interpretation of Gotham, exploring deeper corruption and the consequences of the events depicted in the first film. Reeves co-wrote the screenplay with Mattson Tomlin.

Despite the production pause, neither DC Studios nor Warner Bros. has announced a further change to the film’s release date. The length of the interruption also remains unclear, with Pattinson’s comments indicating that the team will reassess the schedule before resuming work.

For now, fans will have to wait for further updates on the sequel’s production. The studio’s statement and Pattinson’s remarks suggest that the pause is temporary, although the timeline for filming to resume has not been confirmed.
