Robbers loot jewelry shop safe worth millions

KARACHI: In a brazen early-morning robbery, unidentified suspects looted a jewelry shop in the Saddar area of Karachi, escaping with a safe reportedly containing valuables worth around Rs200 million.

According to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) south, the incident occurred at approximately 5:30am when two suspects cut through the shop’s shutter using a cutter and gained entry.

Police said the robbers held the security guard at gunpoint and later persuaded him to assist in the crime.

In his statement to police, the guard revealed that the suspects had promised him Rs. 50,000 in exchange for his cooperation. With the guard’s help, the accused managed to remove the heavy safe from the shop premises.

However, they fled the scene without paying him the promised amount.

Authorities believe the safe contained jewelry and cash worth nearly Rs200 million. Police officials confirmed that the shop owners have yet to submit a formal complaint or provide an exact estimate of the losses.

Meanwhile, Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has taken strict notice of the incident and directed the DIG South to submit a detailed report immediately.

He also instructed law enforcement agencies to mobilize teams for the swift arrest of the culprits, emphasizing that negligence in the investigation would not be tolerated.

The minister further stressed the use of modern technology to trace the suspects and ensure their arrest, while maintaining law and order in the city.

Police have launched a full-scale investigation and are collecting evidence from the crime scene.
