“Therefore, digging it out will be a long and difficult process,” he added.

His comments come ahead of possible high-level talks in Islamabad.

US Vice President JD Vance is scheduled to travel to Pakistan on Tuesday for negotiations. However, Tehran has not officially confirmed its participation and has called for the lifting of the US blockade on the Strait of Hormuz.

According to reports, the White House spent Monday waiting for confirmation from Tehran about whether it would send a delegation to Islamabad. Mediators have also urged Iranian officials to attend.

So far, Tehran has not announced a final decision. Pakistani sources told the New York Post that Iran was open to a second round of talks, but no decision had been finalized.

Pakistan previously hosted direct high-level talks between the US and Iran in Islamabad on April 11–12 the first such engagement since diplomatic ties were cut in 1979 but those discussions ended without a breakthrough.
