PESHAWAR:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided in principle to launch its October 4 long march from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s southern districts, although the party has yet to finalise the city from where the procession will begin, according to sources.

Sources said Karak, the hometown of MNA Shahid Khattak, was among the possible starting points, while a proposal to begin the march from Dera Ismail Khan was also under consideration. A final decision is expected at the political committee meeting scheduled this week.

The party’s senior leadership has also proposed that former chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur and incumbent Chief Minister Sohail Afridi travel together on the same container during the march. However, the proposal has yet to be approved.

The PTI has already announced the October 4 long march, but has kept its strategy largely under wraps, with even members of the provincial assembly and party office-bearers reportedly not being informed about the details.

The proposal to start the march from the southern districts has been confirmed by Information Minister Shafi Jan and provincial president Junaid Akbar, although the exact launch point remains undecided.

Sources said Gandapur had also had a container prepared for the march, which would travel from Dera Ismail Khan towards Islamabad via the motorway. His convoy would wait for the chief minister’s convoy at the Hakla Interchange.
