ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across parts of northern Pakistan, with the weather system expected to remain active through Sept. 6.
The PMD said weak moist currents are moving toward the country’s upper regions, while a weak westerly system is present over northern areas. The system is likely to affect parts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Pothohar Plateau, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and nearby mountainous areas.
Islamabad and surrounding areas are expected to remain humid with partly cloudy skies during the day. Rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms is possible in the evening and at night, with isolated areas receiving heavy showers.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain is expected in Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Battagram, Peshawar, Nowshera, Abbottabad and Mansehra.

Parts of Punjab, including Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock, Sialkot and Gujrat, may also receive showers with strong winds and thunderstorms.
Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir and upper parts of Gilgit-Baltistan are likely to see scattered rain. The showers could bring cooler temperatures to the upper regions.
Most plains across Pakistan are expected to remain hot and humid.
Most districts of Sindh and Balochistan will likely experience hot weather, while coastal areas may remain partly cloudy.
The PMD said continental air continues to prevail over most parts of the country, while moist currents are affecting the upper regions.
The PMD warned of a risk of landslides in upper and mountainous areas during periods of heavy rain.
Residents and travelers in vulnerable areas should exercise caution, particularly in mountainous regions where heavy showers could affect road conditions and disrupt travel.
The weather system is expected to gradually weaken after Sept. 6, bringing a close to the current period of monsoon-related activity in the affected regions.
