Says comprehensive, effective EV policy is need of hour to address requirements related to energy efficiency

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday chaired a review meeting on sectoral reforms and policy measures in Islamabad aimed at increasing investment and strengthening overall economic development.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the prime minister said the promotion of industry and trade and the increase in foreign investment are indispensable for the sustainable development of the country’s economy. He said effective policy measures to increase exports, along with higher domestic production of industrial goods, are part of the government’s policy priorities.
He added that reforms in industry, trade and other sectors of the economy should focus on long-term economic efficiency and public welfare. The prime minister said a comprehensive strategy is being actively developed to meet future energy needs through alternative energy sources.

He further said a comprehensive and effective electric vehicle policy is the need of the hour to address requirements related to energy efficiency and affordable transport. He stressed that all ministries and experts should ensure meaningful consultation for the inclusion of modern technology across various sectors.
The premier said all ministries should work in close cooperation and coordination for the formulation and implementation of effective development policies. He added that administrative transparency and improved performance across all reforms and initiatives remain the government’s top priority.

The meeting was briefed on various policy proposals under consideration by relevant ministries.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musaddiq Malik, Minister for Power Division Sardar Owais Leghari, Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervez Malik, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar, Director General SIFC Major General Asad Ur Rehman Cheema, and officials of relevant institutions.
