Pakistan-Saudi-Türkiye strategic partnership set to drive economic growth

ISLAMABAD: A new economic chapter is emerging as Pakistan’s strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye moves beyond defence cooperation towards investment, trade and development.

The growing alliance is creating opportunities for Pakistan to attract foreign capital, generate employment, boost exports and strengthen its foreign exchange position.

The partnership, which has traditionally been viewed through the lens of regional security and defence cooperation, is now gaining attention for its potential economic impact. Analysts believe the real benefit for Pakistan will depend on converting strategic relations into long-term investment, industrial growth and sustainable economic opportunities.

The development follows increased engagement among the three countries, including the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement signed on August 7, 2026, which further strengthened strategic cooperation. However, experts believe the partnership’s success will ultimately be measured through economic outcomes rather than agreements alone.

A key role in strengthening Pakistan’s strategic engagement with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye has been attributed to Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, whose outreach, coordination and diplomatic efforts contributed to building greater confidence among the partner countries. Saudi Arabia also recognised his efforts by conferring the King Abdulaziz Medal of Excellent Class.

According to economic analyst Ch. Muhammad Akmal, FCMA, Pakistan must focus on transforming strategic goodwill into productive investment rather than relying only on financial assistance.

He said Saudi Arabia’s capital resources, Türkiye’s technological expertise and Pakistan’s workforce and geographical position could create a strong economic partnership if translated into practical projects.

Saudi Arabia remains one of Pakistan’s most important economic partners, particularly due to the large Pakistani workforce in the Kingdom. Remittances from overseas Pakistanis continue to play a vital role in supporting Pakistan’s foreign exchange position.

Under Saudi Vision 2030, Pakistan has an opportunity to expand skilled workforce exports by providing specialised training aligned with the Kingdom’s growing labour requirements.

Saudi investment in sectors including energy, refining, petrochemicals, mining and minerals could also support industrial development, reduce import dependency and create export-oriented industries.

Türkiye’s expertise in manufacturing, technology and industrial development offers Pakistan opportunities to improve productivity and strengthen local industries.

Potential cooperation in agriculture technology, machinery, food processing, tourism and joint manufacturing could help Pakistan enhance production capacity and encourage technology transfer.

The success of the Pakistan-Saudi-Türkiye partnership will depend on moving beyond agreements and ensuring measurable outcomes, including investment inflows, job creation, technology transfer and export growth.

Experts believe Pakistan must establish clear targets for every initiative to ensure that strategic cooperation translates into economic benefits for businesses, industries and citizens.

The partnership presents Pakistan with a significant opportunity to strengthen its economy, but its long-term success will rely on effective implementation, consistent policies and the ability to transform diplomatic trust into sustainable economic growth.
