Pakistan ready to welcome $2b investment from Azerbaijan: PM

LACHIN: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that Pakistan is prepared to receive a $2 billion investment from Azerbaijan, targeting multiple sectors for mutual economic benefit.

In an interview with Azerbaijan TV before departing Lachin for Dushanbe at the conclusion of his three-day visit, the prime minister revealed that President Ilham Aliyev had reaffirmed his country’s commitment to invest in Pakistan.

“President Ilham Aliyev once again reiterated his pledge to invest $2 billion in Pakistan. We are fully ready to facilitate this investment for shared prosperity,” said the prime minister.

He also highlighted his participation in the Azerbaijan Independence Day celebrations, noting the significance of May 28 for Pakistan as well — the day the country became a nuclear power in 1998.

He said Azerbaijan was a “brotherly and great” country which had completely transformed under the “dynamic” leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.

Prime Minister Shehbaz said that during their meeting, both sides discussed joint cooperation in trade, commerce and investment. In the future, both countries will have more coordination in commerce, defence production, education, health and many other sectors.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif winded up his three-day visit to Azerbaijan and left for Tajikistan, on the last leg of his four-nation visit.

At Lachin International Airport, the prime minister was seen off by Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Qasim Mohiuddin, and other diplomatic officials.

During his visit to Azerbaijan, the prime minister held a bilateral meeting with the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev; participated in the Pakistan-Turkiye-Azerbaijan Trilateral Summit; and attended Azerbaijan’s Independence Day celebrations.

While being in Dushanbe, the prime minister will participate in the international conference on glaciers’ preservation.
