Pakistan, China expand pharmaceutical cooperation at investment conference

Pharmaceutical & Healthcare B2B Investment Conference 2026 is jointly organized by SIFC, MoNHSRC and DRAP.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China on Friday launched a two-day investment conference aimed at strengthening cooperation in the pharmaceutical, healthcare and biotechnology sectors, as Islamabad seeks to attract foreign investment and modernize its healthcare industry.

The Pakistan-China Pharmaceutical & Healthcare B2B Investment Conference 2026 is jointly organized by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), the Ministry of National Health Services and the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP).

The event brings together Chinese investors, manufacturers and technology providers with Pakistani pharmaceutical and healthcare companies to promote strategic partnerships and business collaboration.

The conference features business-to-business meetings, networking sessions and investment discussions designed to facilitate joint ventures and technology transfer.

Around 160 Chinese companies, represented by nearly 180 delegates, are participating alongside 340 Pakistani businesses and entrepreneurs.

Speaking at the conference, Health Minister Mustafa Kamal said Pakistan currently manufactures about 85% of its medicines but continues to import nearly 90% of the raw materials required for pharmaceutical production.

He said greater Chinese investment and local manufacturing partnerships could help reduce import dependence and strengthen Pakistan’s pharmaceutical supply chain.

The conference comes as Pakistan pursues economic reforms under a $7 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) program, with the government focusing on attracting foreign investment, boosting industrial production and increasing exports.
