United States cannot be trusted as it has violated agreements in the past as well, Esmail Baghaei
Tehran: Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei has said that there are currently no plans under consideration for a new round of talks with the U.S, adding that dialogue with Washington is not possible under present circumstances.
In a press briefing, the spokesperson said the United States had violated a ceasefire by attacking an Iranian vessel, while also noting that there has been no positive change in US policies. According to him, the outcomes of Washington’s current approach will not be any better.
Esmail Baghaei said that the United States is escalating tensions in the region and that its actions are fueling crisis instead of promoting stability. He said Washington has been issuing contradictory statements through the media, while Iran maintains a clear and consistent position.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson said the United States cannot be trusted as it has violated agreements in the past as well. He added that the US naval blockade and other measures constitute a clear breach of the ceasefire.
He further said Iran had presented a 10-point proposal for peace in the region, which was considered in talks held in Islamabad. Iran, he said, seeks stability in the region, but will not compromise on its national interests.
According to Baghaei, Iran’s armed forces are capable of delivering a strong and decisive response to any aggression, and the country will not abandon its right to self-defence.
He added that the United States and Israel are violating international law, and called on the United Nations and other international bodies to play their role.
He further said Pakistan has played a positive role for peace in the region, and Iran remains willing to continue cooperation for regional stability.
