The White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced on Wednesday her decision to leave the Trump administration at the end of the month on the pretext of spending more time with her family.
In a social media post, Leavitt wrote “The truth is since returning to the White House after the birth of my daughter, I have felt in my heart that I cannot be the best mom my two young children deserve while devoting the constant time, energy, and attention required of the White House Press Secretary — and that is why I have ultimately made the bittersweet decision to depart the White House and embark on a new chapter in my life.”
President Trump replied to her decision in a social media post, stating “I totally understand and respect.”
Trump also indicated that Karoline will still be a part of Republican orbit by working as “one of my top outside advisors and an influential voice within the party.”
The announcement of leaving the role made by the 28-year-old left many people surprised and some people came up with various theories justifying the reason behind such abrupt resignation of Karoline.

The 34-year-old Trump’s executive assistant has often been seen by Trump’s side at nearly every public appearance. She reportedly deals with Trump’s digital presence.
A Wall Street Journal analysis from May 2026 noted that she handles after-hours posting of pre-approved material to his social media accounts.
Given her prominent status and trusted position within Trump’s inner circle, Harp is viewed as a viable candidate to step in for Leavitt.

A source told the Daily Mail that Harp is “closer” to Trump than anyone else in his inner circle. “There is no one closer to the president on his team,” while explaining her relationship with the president.
Another leaked video widely circulating on X showed how Karoline Leavitt appeared to be isolated during a tense Marine One exchange with Donald Trump and another woman who could be Natalie Harp. Hours later, she announced her decision to leave his role.
