NASA launches tool to show your name from space

NASA has launched a new interactive feature that allows users to view their names represented through satellite imagery of Earth using data captured by its long-running Landsat program.

The tool titled “Your Name in Landsat,” enables users to type their name into a search bar after which the system generates a series of satellite images in which natural landforms resemble individual letters. These formations are derived from real geographic features such as rivers, coastlines, deserts, and mountain ranges.

According to NASA Landsat provides the longest continuous space-based record of Earth’s surface, making it a vital resource for scientific research.

Over the decades the program has supported studies on urban development, environmental changes, agricultural cycles, and deforestation, offering valuable insights into how the planet has evolved since the 1970s.

To use the feature individuals can visit the official NASA website and access the interactive tool. After entering a name, the platform displays corresponding satellite images along with relevant geographic information, including location names and latitude and longitude coordinates.

The imagery used in this feature is sourced from multiple platforms, including NASA Earth Observatory, NASA Worldview, USGS EarthExplorer, and ESA Sentinel Hub, ensuring accuracy and a wide range of visual data.

The initiative reflects NASA’s ongoing efforts to make space-based data more accessible and engaging for the public while also showcasing the scientific and educational value of Earth observation technologies.
