The tortoise, named Teru, was adopted through the animal rescue organisation Wags and Walks, which revealed that this was the first time they had ever rescued a tortoise.
According to the organisation, Teru is a 20-year-old Sulcata tortoise who had ended up in the shelter system under unusual circumstances. The rescue team said that when they learned Miley Cyrus was interested in adopting a tortoise, they helped facilitate the connection, leading to what they described as a “perfect forever home.”
The organisation also highlighted its wider rescue work, noting that just weeks earlier it had saved dozens of dogs from overcrowded shelters facing serious capacity challenges.
Miley’s adoption announcement came just two days after she was honoured as the 2,845th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a landmark moment recognising her long-standing impact in the music industry.
Following the ceremony, Cyrus shared an emotional message on social media, thanking her fans for their support and expressing gratitude for the recognition.
