Megyn Kelly attacks Olivia Rodrigo over Cornell 7 support: ‘Shut up and stick to singing’

“I liked you better when you were in front of a microphone singing your weird little depressing songs,” Kelly said

Megyn Kelly has launched a furious attack on Olivia Rodrigo after the singer spoke out in support of Jane Doe, the former Cornell University student at the centre of a sexual assault lawsuit involving seven former fraternity members.

Rodrigo addressed the case on social media earlier this week, writing: “Shame on Cornell and on every institution who protects rapists and abusers over women. I stand with Jane Doe.” She added that Doe’s bravery “reverberates across the country” and said she deserves answers, consequences and lasting change.

Kelly responded to Rodrigo during an episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, telling the singer that she did not know what she was talking about and should “shut up and stick to singing”.

“I liked you better when you were in front of a microphone singing your weird little depressing songs,” Kelly said. She went on to describe Rodrigo as a “know-nothing moron” and questioned why the singer was commenting on an issue she believed she did not understand.

Kelly also warned Rodrigo that she could scrutinise the singer’s own music and lyrics if she continued speaking publicly about the case. “Sit down and be quiet,” she said, adding that she would start examining “exactly the kind of messaging” Rodrigo was promoting to young women.

Rodrigo’s comments came after Doe filed a lawsuit against Cornell University and seven former members of the Chi Phi fraternity. Doe alleges that she was drugged and sexually assaulted at a fraternity house in October 2024. The men named in the lawsuit have denied wrongdoing, and none has been criminally charged.

Cornell previously conducted an internal investigation into the allegations, resulting in two men being expelled while others received suspensions or lesser disciplinary penalties. The university has since agreed to an independent review of how it handled Doe’s report.

Rodrigo is among a number of celebrities who have publicly expressed support for Doe, following statements from figures including Florence Pugh, Mariska Hargitay, Hudson Williams and Josh Gad.

Kelly has previously criticised other celebrities who spoke about the Cornell case, including Hargitay, while questioning aspects of the allegations and the response to them. Her latest comments have now placed Rodrigo at the centre of the ongoing debate surrounding the case.
