Lauren Cohen teases ‘out of the box’ future for her ‘The Walking Dead’ character

Lauren Cohen is embracing a new chapter both on and off screen.

In an interview with People magazine, the actress revealed that she’s found love while setting her signs on becoming a feature film director after spending 15 years in The Walking Dead universe.

Known for playing Maggie Rhee, Cohen reflected on her journey with the franchise. “It’s like a marriage for me.”

“It’s been like 15 years. It feels longer, weirdly,” she said.

Cohen added, “I’ve had some of the biggest changes to my life while being on this show,” and called the series “greatest constant” in her life.

She further shared, “It doesn’t feel like time has moved because I’ve always had the show with me.”

“I’ve moved countries three times, but this is the longest running relationship [I’ve had], I suppose,” Cohen said.

Talking about her next challenges, Cohen said, “I was really proud of how my episode — episode 6 of season 2 — turned out,” referring to The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang letting her direct the last few episodes of the series.

She said, “I directed this show knowing that my end goal is to write and direct my own films.”

Adding, “I’m writing something right now that has been in my mind for so long. The practicalities of directing really liberated my mind to be able to conceive of doing it.”

“AMC’s been so supportive. They wanted me to direct on other shows,” Lauren Cohen added further.

It is pertinent to mention that Cohen also shared that Kang didn’t want her to leave. “I’d been on the show for a while, my contract was ending and there were opportunities. I have always wanted to do comedy. I started out my career wanting to do comedy.”

Cohen noted that her character still has lots of stories to tell.

It is pertinent to mention that Cohen also shared glimpse into her personal life, confirming she’s in a relationship. But, she kept her boyfriend’s identity private.
