Karachi’s ‘Awaam Dost Mandi’ witnesses massive buyer influx

KARACHI: With less than two weeks remaining until Eid al-Adha, buying activity has surged at Awaam Dost Mandi, where thousands of residents are purchasing sacrificial animals.

Market officials said the pace of transactions has accelerated across multiple sections of the livestock market, with trucks carrying purchased animals leaving continuously throughout the day.

Shoppers from across Karachi reported spending several hours comparing animals and negotiating prices before finalizing purchases. Many buyers said they were able to find suitable animals within their budgets.

The market drew additional attention when JDC Head Zafar Abbas visited alongside Ali Sheikhani and other philanthropists. Abbas said he purchased a large number of animals for collective sacrifice and praised the market for offering a wide range of animals at competitive prices.

Speaking to reporters, Abbas said families were visiting the market late into the night and expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements.

He said the JDC Foundation Pakistan had already purchased several bulls and camels, with plans to acquire more animals for its annual collective sacrifice program.

Administrator Tariq Tanoli said Sindh Police and the Pakistan Rangers were conducting round-the-clock patrols on routes leading to the market to ensure the safety of visitors.

Tanoli said the strong turnout and active trading reflected growing public confidence in the market as preparations for Eid-ul-Adha intensify.
