Karachi Bar Association elections begins, after 7 month delay

The annual election is an important event for the legal community, as it determines the leadership of one of Pakistan’s largest bar associations.

Karachi Bar Association (KBA) annual elections began on Saturday at the Sindh High Court after being postponed several times over the past seven months.

The election is being held under the supervision of Chief Election Commissioner Barrister Zulfiqar Ali Jalbani. two polling stations have been set up inside the high court New Bar Room and Old Bar Room to facilitate voting.

Lawyers are voting to elect office bearers for several key positions, including president, vice president, general secretary, joint secretary, treasurer, librarian and 11 members of the managing committee.

Four candidates are contesting the post of president, while eight candidates are competing for vice president. Several other candidates are also contesting for the remaining executive positions.

A total of 51 candidates are running for 11 seats on the managing committee. Only registered members of the Karachi Bar Association are eligible to vote, the election is being conducted through an electronic voting system.
