ISLAMABAD: The joint opposition held its first parliamentary meeting at Parliament House on Monday to discuss a coordinated strategy inside the legislature, with leaders and parliamentary representatives from opposition parties in attendance.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan also arrived at Parliament House to participate in the joint opposition parliamentary party meeting.
Speaking to reporters, Gohar said the opposition alliance was currently limited to the National Assembly floor and legislative matters.
He said his party had previously expressed, and continued to have, a desire for Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to join the alliance.
Gohar called for all political parties to unite around an agenda focused on strengthening the country, Parliament, an independent judiciary and the Election Commission of Pakistan.
He said representatives of the Pakistan Peoples Party had also visited and emphasized the need to maintain communication and dialogue among political parties.
Gohar said PTI founder had entrusted Asad Qaiser and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas with authority over opposition movements and political affairs.
He added that political workers had been instructed not to chant slogans against anyone and to maintain civility in their public discourse.

Earlier, Maulana Fazlur Rahman, Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, delivered a wide-ranging address at a workers’ convention in Peshawar on Saturday, criticizing the government over constitutional violations, military intervention in politics, and the deteriorating law and order situation in the country.
Maulana said Pakistan’s Constitution clearly states that no law shall be enacted against the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah, but expressed regret that this constitutional provision is not being implemented to the letter.
“The constitution was finalized through the struggle of our scholars, but its non-implementation reflects the negligence of rulers,” he said.
