Japanese K-pop influencer Mina Chan dies by suicide at 26 after TikTok livestream
Before her death, Chan had faced criticism from ENHYPEN fans following an interaction at the group’s US show in July
K-pop influencer Mina Chan has died aged 26 after a TikTok livestream that prompted followers to contact authorities.
Chan, a Japanese influencer based in South Korea and a dedicated ENHYPEN fan, had more than 80,000 followers on TikTok.
The incident reportedly took place during a livestream from her home on August 5.
Yongsan Police Station confirmed officers discovered Chan’s body at about 5.33am after receiving a concerned report from an acquaintance.
The circumstances surrounding her death were reported by the Korea Herald.
Chan’s younger sister confirmed her death in an Instagram Story the following day. “My beloved older sister, who was always kind and warm to everyone she met, has passed away. I kindly ask that you keep my sister in your thoughts and prayers,” she wrote.
Before her death, Chan had faced criticism from some ENHYPEN fans following an interaction at the group’s US show in July. She had reportedly attempted to ask Sunoo to pass flowers to Ni-ki, prompting accusations that she had overstepped boundaries.
Chan apologised in a statement posted on X on July 31.
“I feel like my actions ended up taking advantage of Sunoo’s kindness. I’m truly sorry. I feel so apologetic toward Sunoo and all the Sunoo fans,” she wrote.
She later added, “I’m truly sorry.”
Following news of her death, followers left tributes on her Instagram posts. One wrote, “The amount of hate, harassment and blame-shifting in this fandom is genuinely disgusting.”
Another described Chan as “a sweet, beautiful and kind girl with a big heart” and called for her to “rest peacefully”.
