The Japanese government has reiterated its firm stance on resolving the decades-old abduction issue, emphasizing that Tokyo remains fully committed to tackling the matter head-on should bilateral summit talks with North Korea materialize.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara said on Thursday,Japan aims to firmly address the issue of Japanese citizens abducted by North Korean agents decades ago at a summit meeting planned to be organised with North Korea.
Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s administration has underscored that securing a breakthrough on the repatriation of Japanese abductees remains a top diplomatic priority, maintaining that Tokyo will pursue concrete action without excluding any options.
While Pyongyang has previously signaled resistance regarding preconditions on the historic abductions, Japanese officials continue to coordinate closely with international partners—including the United States—to keep pressure on the regime and maintain a high-velocity diplomatic posture.
