Islamabad Court sentences TikToker Sana Yousaf murderer to death

ISLAMABAD: A district and sessions court in Islamabad on Tuesday sentenced Umar Hayat to death in the murder case of TikToker Sana Yousaf, along with multiple prison terms and fines on additional charges.

Additional Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka announced the reserved verdict, stating that the prosecution had proven its case beyond doubt and awarding the death penalty on the murder charge.

The court also handed Umar Hayat a total of 30 years in prison and imposed fines amounting to Rs 2.4 million, according to court proceedings.

He received separate 10-year sentences under three additional charges, including robbery and unlawful entry.

During the hearing, the prosecution presented call records and chat screenshots as evidence linking the accused to the victim.

Defense counsel argued that the trial had not been fair, raising concerns about due process under Article 10-A of Pakistan’s Constitution, and claimed the case was being influenced by public pressure. The judge, however, expressed displeasure over remarks made by the defense lawyer, instructing him not to mislead the court.

The defense also stated that separate petitions were pending before the Islamabad High Court.

According to police, Sana Yousaf was killed on June 2, 2025, inside her home in Islamabad. Umar Hayat was arrested a day later from Jaranwala.

Investigators said a identification parade was conducted on June 13, and a second mobile phone belonging to the accused was later recovered. Formal charges were filed on Sept. 20.

The court recorded the first testimony in the case on Sept. 25, with a total of 31 witnesses listed. Statements from 27 witnesses were presented during the trial.
