The US attacks on Iran have plunged Iranians back into profound uncertainty and anxiety, ending a temporary period of calm while a fragile ceasefire held.

According to Reuters, Iranians contacted through private messaging apps said economic problems were rising and they were preoccupied with concerns over what will happen in the near future.

In this connection, Somayeh, 40 shared a photograph of her weekly grocery shopping that a photographer in Tehran, explaining the prices have virtually doubled. 

“The most important thing overall in the middle of the war is the economy. Everyday our situation is worse and more difficult,”

“The thing that’s the most stressful is the back and forth: one day it’s war, the next it’s peace. We don’t know what’s actually going to happen. We can’t even make plans for two days in the future.”

Similarly, a 30-year-old software engineer, Amir from Sanandaj in the western Kurdistan province said that he had gotten married before the war began with the US-Israeli attacks on February 28.

He also shared his experience of worrying about how his family has been struggling to find work since Iran’s leaders imposed a communications blackout during protests against the authorities in January. He was of the view that there were no pathways for him because he is a remote worker who relies on the internet.

The current geopolitical tensions have caused problems for people from various walks of life. 

Amir also detailed experiencing insomnia when he was unable to contact his father for months because his father was away in Iraqi Kurdistan. In spite of all the ongoing turmoil, he remains in the country, as reported by the Reuters.

“My mom was around during the Iran-Iraq War, and she said then that my grandfather would say that it’s ok if we died, as long as we were under our own roof, ” he continued.
