Gary Oldman has finally broken his silence and clarified his comment about James Bond casting.
In his earlier interview with Canadian broadcaster Global, the 68-year-old Actor and filmmaker claimed that the creators of the 007 franchise had cast the iconic character for the upcoming movie, expressing his wish for his Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden to land a role.
“It’s been rumored that he’s on the shortlist. We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack,” he said at that time.
After his speculation took the internet by storm, Oldman reflected on his remark during a Visionaries session at TIFF, confessing that he does not know who will play next James Bond.
He told Josh Horowitz, “There’s six people on a shortlist. I heard a rumor that they’ve picked James Bond, but they haven’t announced it yet, which is their prerogative. So, I do not know [who has got the part], but I’m hoping it’s Jack.”
The Darkest Hour star went on to jokingly quip that he had a “red phone” to the “Bond people” and he would keep the identity of 007 under wraps even if he knew it.
It is pertinent to mention that the new actor who will replace Daniel Craig for the forthcoming James Bond movie has yet to be announced, as the movie is currently in development under Amazon MGM Studios.
