France faces intense summer heatwave
PARIS: France is currently in the grip of a severe heatwave, with temperatures soaring above 35°C and expected to climb as high as 40°C in the coming days, prompting widespread alerts and safety measures.
Over 50 departments across the country have been placed under an “orange alert” by authorities, signaling significant health and safety risks. Due to the extreme weather conditions, multiple schools have been closed, and strict workplace regulations have been enforced to protect workers from heat-related illnesses.
The French Meteorological Department has warned that the ongoing heatwave will peak on Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures expected to hit 40°C in more than two-thirds of the country.
Authorities have urged the public to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor exposure, and remain in shaded or cool areas. In response, cooling centers and municipal pools have been opened nationwide to provide relief from the extreme heat.
With concerns of a prolonged heatwave, daily life across France has been significantly affected. Vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and those with health conditions have been advised to take extra precautions.
Officials have also appealed to citizens to avoid non-essential travel during peak heat hours to prevent heat-related illnesses and reduce strain on emergency services.
