Emma Willis’ husband, Matt Willis, has explained how he felt when he discovered a heartbreaking diary his wife had been keeping about his drinking.

The 43-year-old has been married to Emma, 50, since 2008, whilst the Love Is Blind hosts have been in a relationship for over two decades.

In the past few years, Matt has been open about his addiction to alcohol and how that affected his wife, who is making her Strictly Come Dancing debut this weekend, and their three children, Isabelle, Ace, and Trixie.

In a recent episode of his On The Mend podcast, Busted band member Matt described his life experiences to Michelle Heaton about hiding his drinking and what he discovered when he was sober.

He told the former Liberty X singer, “Emma kept a diary towards the end of my drinking of what she saw me drink like, ‘He drunk this today. He drunk this today. He told me he wasn’t going to drink, but he drunk this and now he’s drinking this.’”

Matt continued, “And I read this, right? I didn’t ever know this existed for eight years or something. And I read this diary and I was like, ‘This is a quarter of what I was doing.’”

“I was so good at hiding it, you know, well, I thought I was. I was so good at hiding it. Like, I had routines, I had things put into place so I’d never be without a drink because I couldn’t be,” he confessed.

This isn’t the first time Matt has talked about his addiction and has helped to raise awareness of the issues caused by it, and the people affected by it.

Back in 2023, he released a documentary about his experiences and spoke to BBC, admitting how concerned he was about his eldest daughter viewing it.

Matt Willis told the broadcaster at that time, “It’s going to be really hard to see her dad like that and what her mum had to deal with. But I think nothing should be swept under the carpet. We have to be as honest and open as possible.”
