US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has announced a new Pentagon project involving Elon Musk, Palmer Luckey and former House speaker Newt Gingrich to study the future of warfare.
Hegseth unveiled the initiative during his State of the Force address at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia on Wednesday.
“Their work will be focused on discovering, developing, and fielding the weapons and systems that our children and our grandchildren will need in their lifetimes,” Hegseth said, according to The Guardian.
The project is expected to be completed within 120 days before its findings are publicly released.
Luckey is the founder of Anduril Industries, a defence technology company and major US military contractor. Musk’s companies also hold US government contracts.
Hegseth also announced a 20 percent reduction in generals and admirals across the US military, saying the changes were part of an effort to reshape military leadership.
“The only focus, as you know, in your formations should be training, readiness, accountability, discipline, and lethality,” Hegseth said.
The defence secretary also repeated his criticism of diversity policies and military leaders he accused of supporting them.
