Danny Glover, a legendary Hollywood star, has finally revealed he has been secretly battling Alzheimer’s disease for multiple years.
It comes as a shock to the TODAY hosts as the actor, for the first time, revealed his diagnosis in public.
“I’m sure as it advances, things are going to be different and changing,” the actor said.
As the incurable brain disorder progresses, Glover said his family has become his biggest source of support.
“Absolutely,” he added. “They’ve got my back.”
Though the diagnosis may have slowed Glover’s movement and memory, he did not let it affect his daily activities.
“I could live with it, in a sense,” the actor said, referring to his condition.
Regarding why Glover chose to break his silence about his diagnosis, Mandisa, his daughter, has the answer.
“I think it’s really important for him to have control of his own narrative, of his own life story,” she said.
“That’s really important. And the time is now. What better time but now for him to speak for himself?
Glover’s announcement comes as over seven million Americans whose ages are over 65 are battling Alzheimer’s.
