‘Dancing With the Stars’ Season 35 Night Week 5 recap: Super Bowl Night delivers highest scores yet
The programme’s first-ever Super Bowl Night featured performances inspired by former halftime show artists
Guillermo Rodriguez and professional partner Witney Carson have been eliminated from Dancing With the Stars following the programme’s first-ever Super Bowl Night, which featured performances inspired by former halftime show artists.
The Tuesday, October 13 episode saw the remaining couples dance to music by performers including Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, Bad Bunny and Usher.
Themed around the upcoming Super Bowl broadcast on ABC and ESPN, the episode also welcomed ESPN’s Monday Night Football announcer Joe Buck as a guest judge.
Jenna Dewan and Val Chmerkovskiy delivered one of the evening’s strongest performances, earning 36 out of 40 points for their paso doble to Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance”.
Paralympian Ezra Frech and Daniella Karagach also scored 36 points with their salsa to Nelly’s “Hot in Herre”.
Maura Higgins, Julia Stiles and Harry Shum Jr. each earned 33 points, while Olympic figure skater Amber Glenn received 34 points for her samba to “Mi Gente” by J Balvin and Willy William.
Despite their energetic salsa to Bad Bunny’s “Tití Me Preguntó”, Rodriguez and Carson finished with 22 out of 40 points, the lowest score of the night.
Judge Carrie Ann Inaba praised the comedian for applying previous feedback, telling him, “You took the note, and you made it work!”
However, the improvement was not enough to keep the pair in the competition. Their departure disappointed members of the audience, marking another significant moment in this season’s contest.
Next week, Dancing With the Stars will return with Dedication Night, when the remaining celebrities will honour someone or something meaningful in their lives.
