Coyote vs. Acme is receiving largely positive reviews from critics ahead of its cinema release, with the Looney Tunes film currently holding a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The live-action and animated film has received 31 reviews on the Tomatometer, although Rotten Tomatoes’ Critics Consensus, Audience Summary and Popcornmeter scores were still pending.
Directed by Dave Green, the film stars John Cena, Will Forte and Lana Condor and follows Wile E. Coyote as he takes Acme Corporation to court after years of failed attempts to catch the Road Runner. Forte plays Wile E. Coyote’s lawyer, while Cena portrays his former boss.
The film was originally shelved by Warner Bros. in November 2023 despite having a reported production budget of $72 million.
Ketchup Entertainment later acquired the movie from Warner Bros. for $50 million in March 2025, allowing it to receive a theatrical release.
Several critics have praised the film’s approach to the Looney Tunes characters.
Frank Scheck of The Hollywood Reporter called it “a hilarious delight, one of the best live-action/animation films ever, and will be treasured by Looney Tunes fans (and who isn’t one?).”
Liz Shannon Miller of Consequence described it as “a charming, laugh-out-loud funny tribute to decades of animated history, even as it reflects a world of harsh realities.”
However, not every review has been positive. Variety’s Owen Gleiberman criticised the film as “neutered and tame”, while Tim Grierson of Screen International wrote, “The lackluster screenplay proves as faulty as ACME’s crummy contraptions.”
Coyote vs. Acme is rated PG and opens in cinemas on August 28.
