Florence Pugh and Josh Gad have spoken out following allegations of sexual assault involving seven former Cornell University students.
A former Cornell student, identified as Jane Doe in a civil lawsuit, has accused seven members of the university’s Chi Phi fraternity of drugging and sexually assaulting her at the fraternity house in October 2024.
The lawsuit also names Cornell University and other organisations and individuals as defendants. The report states that the woman reported the alleged incident to Cornell University Police in November 2024.
Pugh addressed the case in a lengthy Instagram statement, calling for greater accountability and support for the alleged victim.
She wrote, “Colleges/schools/universities repeatedly fail women around the world.”
She also stated, “Those that protect and lightly sentence men that rape and destroy, should be punished and watched closely.”
The actress later claimed that Instagram had removed her post, writing, “Instagram decided to block my post from getting in front of the right people. Tut tut tut. Oh dear. That doesn’t look great does it?”
Gad also criticised the reported disciplinary measures, particularly claims that some accused students were required to submit essays. He wrote, “There is NO SUCH THING as white collar rape.”
One of the accused has denied the allegations through his attorney. The Tompkins County District Attorney’s Office reportedly found “insufficient evidence” to support criminal charges.
The case remains the subject of legal proceedings and public discussion.
