China’s next move? US readies ‘greatest financial offensive’ against Iran

The United States is set to launch the “greatest financial offensive” against Iran as a part of economic D-Day campaign aimed at economically crushing Tehran.

The toughest ever sanctions against Iran are expected to unveil on Monday  at 1 pm EDT as reported by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

“We are now entering the endgame. At dawn begins an economic D-Day — the single greatest financial offensive ever marshaled against an adversary,” Bessent wrote on X.

Bessent also warned that “any nation that serves as a financial artery of a withering regime should expect to share in its isolation.”

As the United States is set to unveil Iran sanctions, China has defied the US pressure in a new statement.

China’s foreign ministry said on Monday will closely monitor all these developments related to alleged economic warfare and “do what is necessary to protect its rights” in the wake of upcoming sanctions that will also target its trading partners.

Speaking on Monday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian called for restraint and rationality among all parties, warning that coercive tactics and sanctions are ineffective for resolving disputes.

Previously, Washington urged Beijing to cooperate on this matter. However, last week China also pushed against these sanctions and called for diplomacy to resolve the conflict.

“Imposing sanctions and pressure do not help to solve the issue. China calls on relevant parties to take responsible measures and solve the issues through diplomatic and political means,” Lin Jian said.

These sanctions will impact China as Beijing buys 80 percent oil from Tehran. China is Iran’s second biggest trading partner accounting for 26% of overall imports which make up $17.8 billion.
