ISLAMABAD:
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is preparing to launch construction of the Shahdara Dam project, which is expected to strengthen the capital’s water supply infrastructure and help meet its growing water demand.
The project, being pursued under the vision of Federal Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi and the leadership of CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf, aims to expand Islamabad’s water resources and improve long-term water security.
After decades of anticipation and consultations, the project is expected to introduce a new source of surface water into the capital’s supply network. Under the supervision of Islamabad Water Director General Sardar Khan Zimri, the dam is projected to contribute approximately 510 million gallons per day (MGD), subject to final design, technical assessments and operational arrangements.
The project is planned for completion within two years. Its timely execution is expected to mark a significant milestone in the development of Islamabad’s water infrastructure.
